Lawyers stressed that the amended Anti-Rumor and Cybercrime Law is one of the important laws that criminalize acts or crimes that take place through the use of information technology, given its seriousness and the consequent harm to the interests of the state and its government agencies.

They said that the law, which will enter into force on the second of next January, aims to complete the general system that the state sought in the field of information and its protection, and to find out the shortest ways that confirm the development of cyber security within the state, due to the piracy and information war that plagues the global cyberspace. Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 regarding combating rumors and cybercrime replaced Decree Law No. 5 of 2012 regarding combating information technology crimes, and it contained 74 legal articles.

The amended law penalizes in the event of publishing data or information that does not comply with the standards of media content, with imprisonment and a fine, and criminalizes each person responsible for managing a website or an electronic account that has published on any of them content, data or information that does not comply with the standards of media content issued by the concerned authorities.
