The authorities in Sri Lanka seized a Russian airliner belonging to the airline "Airflot" due to international sanctions imposed on Moscow as a result of the military operation in Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry recalled its ambassador to Sri Lanka on Friday, saying the country should clarify the situation as soon as possible.
The plane, an Airbus A330, was supposed to carry Russian tourists back to Russia, but was held at Colombo airport on Thursday until at least June 16.
It was reported that this step came as a result of a court decision at the request of an Irish rental company claiming that the plane belonged to it.
On Friday, Airflot said it was making efforts to bring back stranded passengers in Sri Lanka and suspended the sale of new tickets.
