Announcing an emergency because 1,100 earthquakes hit one area in just 48 hours

A state of emergency was declared in one of the volcanic Atlantic islands due to the successive seismic attack on the island, which was called a seismic crisis that raised the fears of residents and tourists from this rapid and alarming development.

In this context, about 1,100 small earthquakes struck a volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic, strangely, in less than 48 hours.

This sudden activity caused the island's authorities to quickly activate a contingency plan, during which times a group of experts are assessing what they describe as a "seismic crisis".

On the other hand, Roy Marques, head of the Monitoring Center for Volcanic Seismic Activity in the Azores Archipelago, told Reuters that earthquakes, whose intensity ranged between 1.9 and 3.3 degrees, had been recorded on the island of São Jorge since Saturday, March 19, 2022.
