The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) calls on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the protection of airspace and civil facilities, and to prevent the recurrence of violations that threaten international civil aviation safety.

In a strong official statement, the Kuwaiti DGCA urged ICAO to intervene urgently to counter repeated threats targeting airport infrastructure. This Kuwaiti move comes following a series of attacks on civil facilities, which constitute a blatant violation of all international laws and norms that guarantee the protection of civil aviation.

The DGCA detailed that these reprehensible attacks occurred just 48 hours after the reopening of Terminal (T1) at the airport, following intensive efforts to repair damage caused by a previous attack on February 28th. This systematic recurrence of attacks does not merely aim to destroy facilities; it poses a direct threat to the security and safety of passengers and international air navigation routes.

Key Demands by the Civil Aviation Authority:

• Decisive International Intervention: The authority called on ICAO to fulfill its legal and regulatory responsibilities by imposing strict protective measures to prevent any future violations of airspace and civil facilities.

• Condemnation of Violations: Emphasizing the necessity for a clear international condemnation of any practices targeting civil airports, as they are vital facilities protected under international conventions.

• Ensuring Air Navigation Continuity: Highlighting the importance of taking concrete steps to ensure the stability of flight operations, protect passenger rights, and guarantee the safety of air and ground crews in the face of these threats.

Through this statement, the State of Kuwait reaffirms its full commitment to all international aviation safety standards. It emphasizes that it will not tolerate any compromise in demanding the protection of its sovereign and civil facilities and will continue to coordinate with all relevant international organizations to ensure the non-recurrence of such acts, which contradict the principles of international law and threaten global air security and peace.
