The Kuwait Cabinet has announced the official arrangements for the Islamic New Year holiday for the year 1448 AH. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al Yousef.
According to an official statement the holiday schedule depends on the final number of days in Dhu Al Hijjah for the year 1447 AH. As a result two possible scenarios have been approved.
Under the first scenario Dhu Al Hijjah will consist of twenty nine days. In that case all ministries government entities public authorities and public institutions will be closed on Tuesday June 16 as an official holiday.
The statement explained that regular working hours would resume on Wednesday June 17 if the first scenario is confirmed. The arrangement applies across the public sector.
The second scenario assumes that Dhu Al Hijjah will consist of thirty days. Under this possibility the official holiday will fall on Wednesday June 17.
The Kuwait Cabinet further stated that Thursday June 18 would be considered a rest day because it falls between two non working periods. This measure is intended to organize the public holiday schedule.
If the second scenario is confirmed government employees would return to work on Sunday June 21. The schedule would apply to ministries public agencies and government institutions.
The announcement provides early clarity for employees and public sector workers awaiting confirmation of the holiday period. Interest in the final schedule remains high.
The Kuwait Cabinet emphasized that the final holiday date will depend on the official determination of the end of Dhu Al Hijjah. The approved scenarios ensure readiness for either outcome.
The statement also noted that agencies with special operational requirements may determine their own holiday arrangements through the competent authorities responsible for their affairs.
These arrangements are designed to balance operational needs with the public interest while maintaining continuity in essential services where required.
In conclusion the Kuwait Cabinet has outlined two possible schedules for the Islamic New Year holiday. The final decision will be confirmed once the official determination of the lunar month is announced.
