Efforts to manage traffic congestion in Dubai have taken a significant leap forward, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing an extensive series of traffic enhancements. These improvements, completed last year, aim to boost road safety and efficiency, particularly benefiting educational institutions.
RTA's Extensive Improvements
In 2025, the RTA unveiled 67 rapid traffic upgrades across the emirate, addressing key intersections and development areas. Among these, 46 targeted critical junctions on major thoroughfares and residential zones, while 12 were focused on school districts. A further nine enhancements were made in developing sectors, all part of a strategic plan to optimize mobility and safety on Dubai’s roads.
Future Developments and Current Successes
The success seen in 2025 has paved the way for a new wave of developments planned for 2026, with over 45 additional upgrades set to be introduced. These include widening and modernization of major intersections, along with better access points in both residential and commercial areas, continuing the momentum of rapid traffic fixes within school zones.
School Zone Enhancements
Over 30 schools across Dubai have benefited from these improvements, with the RTA focusing on dedicated parking, enhanced entry and exit routes, and traffic calming measures. Notable school locations include Al Warqa’a First School Complex, Al Mawakeb School in Al Garhoud, and the English College in Al Safa 1, among others. These measures aim to alleviate congestion, especially during peak school times, providing smoother operational traffic flow.
Broader Road Network Upgrades
The RTA's initiatives have also impacted major roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Meydan Street, where notable enhancements have been made. The road from Sheikh Zayed to Al Meydan Street was expanded from two to three lanes, significantly reducing travel time and improving vehicular flow.
Additional efforts on Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street led to increased traffic capacity and reduced waiting periods at intersections. The data-driven approach to these upgrades emphasizes targeted, high-impact solutions to improve journey times and overall road performance.
Continued Commitment to Traffic Solutions
By enhancing vehicular capacity and reducing delays by up to 45%, these measures underscore the RTA’s commitment to improving life quality and sustainability in Dubai. With ongoing upgrades planned, the authority remains dedicated to maintaining efficient connectivity and safety throughout the emirate’s expansive road network.
