In a significant move towards full digital transformation, the General Administration of Customs in Kuwait has officially launched the "Currency Declaration" service through the government’s unified app, Sahl. This digital leap aims to simplify procedures for passengers and ensure a seamless travel experience across all Kuwaiti borders.
Streamlining Procedures for Passengers
According to an official press release, the new service allows both arriving and departing travelers to declare their cash holdings electronically. This proactive measure replaces traditional paperwork with a fast, user-friendly interface available at everyone’s fingertips through their smartphones.
Who Needs to Declare?
The General Administration of Customs has clarified the legal threshold that necessitates a formal declaration. Travelers must use the Sahl app to report their funds if they are carrying:
• Cash or financial instruments exceeding 3,000 Kuwaiti Dinars (KWD).
• The equivalent of this amount in any foreign currencies.
Security and Transparency
By integrating this service into the Sahl platform, Kuwait Customs aims to bolster financial transparency and comply with international anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. This digital system ensures that all declarations are recorded accurately and instantly, providing a secure environment for travelers and efficient oversight for customs officers.
Travelers are encouraged to complete their declarations prior to reaching the customs checkpoints to avoid delays. This initiative reflects Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to leveraging technology to modernize public services and safeguard the nation’s economic interests.
