Saudi Arabia Unveils SMAI 2 Initiative to Advance AI Skills

Saudi Arabia is taking significant steps to enhance its capabilities in data and artificial intelligence with the launch of the SMAI 2 initiative. Tuesday marked the formal introduction of SMAI 2 by Yousef Al-Bunyan, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of King Saud University, alongside Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). Their announcement took place at the International Conference on Capacity Building in Data and Artificial Intelligence (ICAN2026) at King Saud University in Riyadh.

Goals and Collaboration

Collaborating with 11 government ministries, SMAI 2 seeks to empower public sector employees to integrate artificial intelligence technologies effectively and ethically. This initiative is set to enhance efficiency and productivity within the government framework by fostering responsible AI adoption.

During the event, the SMAI 2 charter was presented to various ministries, including Health, Finance, Media, and others.
