The UAE government has revealed mandatory specifications and requirements for workers' accommodations in the Emirate of Dubai, emphasizing that these housing units must comply with health and safety regulations.

According to an official statement issued by Dubai Municipality, the Emirate has established eight mandatory requirements that serve as a technical guide for workers' housing compliance.

These requirements pertain to health and safety conditions in the accommodation, including site and construction standards, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting, unit design, sanitary facilities, kitchens, dining areas, rest areas, medical services, and laundry facilities.

In addition to these health requirements, waste disposal must meet the environmental and health standards set by the relevant authorities, and daily cleaning of the housing units is mandatory.

Workers' accommodations must also be equipped with ventilation and central air conditioning systems in all rooms, dining areas, kitchens, corridors, and halls. If a central air conditioning system is not available, individual air conditioning units must be provided, and an exhaust system must be installed in the bathrooms.

The number of workers allowed in a single room must not exceed 10, with adherence to the allocated space per person. The distance between beds must be at least 36 inches on all sides, at the front, and at the back, and the bed height must be at least 12 inches from the floor.

The municipality clarified that this recently announced guide applies to all permanent workers' accommodations located within the geographical boundaries of the Emirate of Dubai.

The government also clarified that the building requirements and general specifications outlined in the guide include the necessity for the building to be licensed by the relevant authorities.

The use of any material containing asbestos or any materials harmful to public health or the environment is also strictly prohibited. Floors must be made of waterproof, non-slip materials that are easy to clean and wash, as well as being resistant to corrosion, unaffected by industrial detergents, free from cracks and holes, and with a smooth and safe surface.
