As part of its plan to improve the quality of life and create thriving communities, the Department of Municipalities and Transportation has established 16 new parks in the AL Shamekha neighborhood of Abu Dhabi.
In order to encourage visitors of all ages to adopt active and healthy lifestyles, the parks feature large green spaces, eight dedicated fitness areas, 25 sports fields, 26 comprehensive play areas designed for children, walking paths, and seating areas. The opening of these new recreational spaces demonstrates the Department's commitment to providing modern, accessible public facilities, equipped with all services.
The goal of this project
"We have thoughtfully planned these parks in accordance with our objective to improve the quality of life of residents by providing a safe and enjoyable environment for relaxation, socializing, and outdoor activities," stated Engineer Khalifa Abdullah Al Qamzi, head of the project implementation team for the regions – Abu Dhabi at the Department of Municipalities and Transport. We work to make these recreational spaces essential hubs to build community relationships, promote communication, and create a feeling of community belonging in accordance with the objectives of the larger community," he continued.
As part of its efforts to create integrated residential neighborhoods where residents enjoy the highest levels of health and well-being in the emirate, the Department of Municipalities and Transportation in Abu Dhabi City opened new parks in Al Falah and Mohammed bin Zayed City in 2025. The new parks in Al Shamkha are the most recent community spaces.
