In a major blow to foreign-backed subversion, Bahrain's Ministry of Interior has successfully neutralized a terror cell orchestrated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence announced on Monday that it had thwarted a sophisticated plot aimed at undermining the kingdom’s national security and economic interests.
Espionage and Tactical Recruitment
The investigation revealed that the cell consisted of six individuals tasked with gathering and transmitting highly sensitive data to the IRGC. Five suspects were apprehended in a coordinated security raid, while a sixth remains at large outside the country. The group’s primary objectives included recruiting new members to execute terrorist operations and identifying coordinates for strategic locations, including vital infrastructure and prominent hotels, to facilitate future strikes.
Identity of the Suspects
The Bahraini authorities identified the detainees as Abbas Abdullah Habib (39), Yusuf Ahmed Mansour Sarhan (25), Mohammed Fadhel Hameed (39), Sahlan Abdulredha Ali (27), and Mohammed Hadi Hassan (37). The fugitive, Ahmed Yusuf Jassim Sarhan (37), is currently subject to an international pursuit.
Specialized Training in Foreign Camps
Confessions from the arrested individuals shed light on the IRGC's involvement, with one suspect admitting to receiving rigorous training in paramilitary camps. The training focused on clandestine recruitment, human smuggling, and advanced surveillance techniques. The Ministry of Interior emphasized that all legal protocols have been initiated, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution. This operation underscores Bahrain’s unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens and residents from external threats and maintaining regional stability.
