The UAE Ministry of Education has unveiled a new Ramadan-focused educational initiative that introduces remote learning on Fridays for government school students throughout the holy month. Announced on February 13, 2026, this policy aims to balance academic continuity with cultural and family values during Ramadan.
Under this plan, all Fridays falling within Ramadan will be dedicated to distance learning. The Ministry has emphasized that the adjustment is designed to prioritize family time and spiritual reflection while still maintaining academic engagement. By integrating structured online learning with activities tailored to the needs of students during the holy month, the initiative seeks to create an educational rhythm that respects both religious customs and learning outcomes.
To support the transition, the Ministry has released a comprehensive guidance manual detailing digital education activities specifically crafted for students across different grade levels. These activities encompass core curricular subjects as well as cultural and value-based tasks that encourage intellectual growth, self-discipline, and meaningful engagement outside the traditional classroom setting.
Importantly, the Ministry also provided flexibility for parents who prefer in-person schooling on Fridays. In such cases, guardians may send their children to campus, provided they take responsibility for safe transportation to and from school. This dual-option framework was introduced to accommodate varying family circumstances and preferences during Ramadan.
For students in grades 5 through 12, the prescribed remote learning tasks are designed to foster self-directed learning and personal accountability. These assignments require independent work and critical thinking, reinforcing students’ ability to manage their learning outside conventional class hours.
According to the official announcement, the remote Friday model will commence with the first Friday of Ramadan and continue throughout the month.
