In welcome news for citizens and residents in Dubai, International City has entered a new and important phase of traffic regulation with the official implementation of the paid parking system, effective today, Sunday, February 1, 2026. The move aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow within one of the emirate’s most densely populated residential and commercial areas.
Parkin, the operator of the parking system, confirmed that the new framework is designed to ensure fair distribution of parking spaces, granting one free parking permit per residential unit in buildings that do not have existing private parking facilities. However, second vehicles and additional cars registered to the same unit will be required to either pay parking fees or subscribe to a monthly parking plan.
According to the company, the initiative aims to ease parking pressure on residents, eliminate random parking practices, and improve accessibility for both residents and visitors, especially during peak hours.
Parkin stated that the activation of the paid parking system aligns with a comprehensive vision to enhance quality of life in International City and optimize the use of public parking spaces. The company emphasized that all permits and subscription services are now fully available through official digital channels, including the Parkin smart application and its website parkin.ae, ensuring a smooth and efficient user experience.
In previous statements to Emirates Today, Parkin explained that International City had long faced a significant shortage of public parking spaces compared to the number of residential units, leading to severe congestion and operational challenges. This situation prompted the introduction of a new regulatory and operational model.
The company clarified that the system relies on smart integration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Dubai Land Department, allowing parking services to be offered exclusively to officially registered residents while ensuring accurate data verification.
Under the new model, free parking will be limited to registered residents, while designated paid parking zones will be allocated for visitors, shoppers, and service users. This approach is designed to create a balanced ecosystem that meets residents’ needs while supporting commercial activity within International City.
