Parkin, the official parking operator in Dubai and several other emirates, has confirmed that its approved booking system is based on a comprehensive regulatory framework that includes two main types of reservations, designed to accommodate different user needs while maintaining traffic flow and residents’ quality of life.
According to the company, the first category consists of paid reservations allocated to specific sectors in line with applicable regulations. These sectors include hotels, banks, hospitals, and contracting companies, given the operational nature of their activities and the continuous demand for organized parking to support visitors and daily business operations. The second category includes free reservations allocated to citizens in front of their private residential homes, a measure aimed at preserving privacy and enhancing quality of life in residential neighborhoods.
Parkin explained that its fully integrated digital ecosystem, available through its official website and smart application, currently offers 18 types of subscriptions, seven types of permits, and four different booking options. In addition, the platform enables users to pay parking fees in Dubai as well as in several other emirates. This expansion follows the successful transfer and operation of parking services previously managed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), under a formal concession agreement between the two entities.
Regarding the activation of paid parking in International City starting February 1, Parkin stated that the move was driven by operational challenges, primarily the limited number of public parking spaces compared to the area’s high residential density, which had led to significant congestion.
To address this issue, the company implemented a new regulatory and operational model based on smart integration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Dubai Land Department. This system ensures that free parking is restricted exclusively to officially registered residents, with each residential unit receiving one free parking permit for the first time. At the same time, designated paid parking zones have been allocated for visitors and non-residents accessing the area for shopping, services, or other activities.
Osama Al Saffi, Chief Operating Officer at Parkin, stated that the company’s website and mobile application currently provide full digital access to all parking-related services. He noted that Parkin successfully completed the transition of operations from the RTA within a short timeframe, making all services fully accessible through its digital platforms.
Al Saffi added that parking reservations in development areas are managed through flexible agreements with real estate developers, allowing booking models to be tailored to the specific needs of each project. He also highlighted that Parkin conducts performance evaluations every three months in collaboration with developers, supported by a shared platform that provides access to occupancy data, usage rates, and customer satisfaction indicators.
Looking ahead, Al Saffi described 2025 as an exceptional year marked by rapid changes and operational challenges in the parking sector. He emphasized that 2026 will be a transformative year, with Parkin set to announce major achievements and pioneering initiatives aimed at enhancing service efficiency and overall parking quality across the emirate.
