The UAE Ministry of Education has officially outlined the admission framework for government schools for the 2026-2027 academic year, confirming that enrollment will be restricted to five specific student categories under clearly defined regulatory standards. The decision aims to ensure equitable access to public education, maintain organizational efficiency, and support a structured academic pathway from kindergarten through Grade 12 across the country.
According to the approved guidelines, eligibility for admission to government schools includes Emirati nationals, children of Emirati mothers married to non-nationals, citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, children of accredited diplomats residing in the UAE, and holders of officially recognized special decrees. The Ministry emphasized that applicants must provide valid and up-to-date official documentation confirming their eligibility under one of these approved categories.
The registration process will be conducted electronically through the Ministry’s official digital platform. Parents are required to complete the application form, upload all necessary documents, and submit the request for review. Schools will examine applications within a maximum of three working days and notify parents of provisional acceptance or request additional documentation if required. Mandatory documents include the student’s birth certificate, proof of residence, and Emirates ID or equivalent identification depending on the eligibility category.
The Ministry also confirmed that December 31 has been set as the unified age calculation date for kindergarten and Grade 1 admissions. Parents of children born between September 1 and December 31, 2021, are permitted to enroll their children in the appropriate kindergarten level in accordance with official age criteria and parental preference.
For students of determination, the Ministry has established a structured assessment mechanism through inclusive education centers. Each applicant will undergo a diagnostic evaluation to determine the most suitable educational placement, and the approved assessment will remain valid throughout the academic year to ensure continuity of specialized educational support.
The Ministry of Education stressed the importance of adhering to the official registration timeline, warning that delayed or incomplete applications may result in the unavailability of seats within the student’s residential zone. Such circumstances could require alternative logistical arrangements related to school services, including transportation and textbook distribution.
